City Police are providing more information about Monday’s stabbing in downtown Butler.
It happened around 1:50 p.m. in the 300 block of South Main Street. City police responded after receiving several calls that a man had stabbed another person.
When they arrived on the scene, police found 40-year-old Ryan Troup of Butler had been stabbed multiple times on his chest, hands, and neck.
Officers soon found 68-year-old Paul Lenzi of Butler covered in blood and seated on the ground. Witnesses told police that Lenzi was the one who had stabbed Troup.
He was arrested and booked into the Butler County Jail on $250,000 bond.
Police also say that an off-duty Butler County Probation officer stepped in and helped stop the attack. As for a motivation behind the attack, police said their investigation revealed no prior relationship between Troup and Lenzi and that this was an unprovoked attack.
Troup meanwhile was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
Lenzi is facing multiple charges including felony aggravated assault and attempted homicide.
