Butler City Council is continuing to encourage cooperation between City Police and legal representation to crack down on properties found to have consistent problems with disorderly behavior.
Butler City Police Chief Bob O’Neill outlines the number of warning letters sent out to city landlords since March:
“We sent out 57 letter, and we have roughly six repeat offenders,” O’Neill said. “There were probably 45 or 46 properties that were identified.”
According to City Solicitor Tom Breth, the first time someone is actually cited, the situation and proposed action will be presented to council.
“There’s some progress being made,” Breth said. “It’s working so far. Is it perfect? No, but we’re getting there.”
Last year, Council introduced an ordinance to combat drug problems by amending the definition of a disorderly house to include ones where illegal drug activity is occurring.
