The City of Butler Police Department is taking all necessary precautions when it comes to security for this weekend’s Butler Italian Festival.
Police Chief Bob O’Neill says triple the number of officers that are normally on duty will be patrolling while the festival is going on.
“We will have a command post set up,” O’Neill said during a brief to city officials during a Butler City Council meeting on Thursday night. “We’re going to be hyper-vigilant.”
Because of the limited number of officers at the city’s disposal, O’Neill has alerted the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, the Butler Township Police Department and State Police with the details of the event in case they are needed.
O’Neill believes everything that can be done within the city’s budget and contract with the event promoters is being done to make this a safe event for all who attend.
The third annual Butler Italian Festival runs from Friday through Sunday in downtown Butler.
