You may see more police in school zones and following school buses this week as part of National School Bus Safety Week.
The initiative is being called “Operation Safe Stop” which is an effort to stop drivers from passing school buses while they are picking-up and dropping-off students.
The law requires drivers to be at least ten feet away from a bus that has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
The penalty for passing a school bus is a $250 fine, five points on your driving record, and a 60-day suspension of your license.
