With Butler County and most of the southwestern region of Pennsylvania now in the green phase—a new poll released shows the amount of public support for reopening.
The poll was posted to Twitter by University of Pennsylvania Political Science Professor Dan Hopkins. The results found that 46 percent of Pennsylvania residents support open the economy as soon as possible. That’s compared to 43 percent who supported staying-at-home as long as possible.
The results mark a change in feeling, as stay-at-home orders were embraced by a majority of Pennsylvanians in early April. 59 percent of state residents supported staying-at-home, even it harmed the economy.
There’s a stark divide when it comes to party affiliation. 85 percent of Republicans surveyed supported opening the economy as soon as possible. Meanwhile, 76 percent of Democrats supported staying-at-home as long as necessary.
Just over 2,000 people were surveyed in the poll.
In early April, @spbhanot and I conducted a survey via @Civiqs to look at how online Pennsylvanians were responding to COVID-19. Now, @abuttenheim joins us for a second wave with many of the same respondents to see what those views look like (May 30-June 2, n=2,045).
