A New Castle man died in an overnight crash on Route 422.
The accident happened just before 1:30 a.m. near the intersection with Unionville Road in Franklin Township.
State police say 24-year-old Kassandra Clyde of Fombell was driving an SUV in the eastbound lane when she crossed the center line. That’s when she collided into a car driven by 65-year-old James Barge of New Castle.
Barge was pronounced dead at the scene. Clyde suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Pittsburgh trauma center by ambulance.
State police say they are investigating the accident as vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol.
The accident resulted in Route 422 being closed for hours. State police expect the highway to reopen soon.
