Several local school districts and organizations are teaming up to present a free event focused on the power of one caring adult.
Seneca Valley Intermediate High School is hosting author, speaker, and global youth empowerment expert Josh Shipp on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Butler Intermediate High School and Slippery Rock Area High School will livestream this presentation at their facilities at that time.
In addition to sharing his personal story as a former at-risk foster kid and lessons he has learned, Shipp will also lead a question and answer session for teens, parents, teachers, and community members. Seneca Valley Director of Student Services Dr. Jeff Roberts explains the value of this program.
“We know parents are busy and so there are a lot of other things pulling at their schedule. But, for an hour-and-half to be able to step back as a parent, or as an uncle, or caregiver to recognize the power that you have to make a lifetime of influence on a young child I think is well worth it,” Roberts said.
Early Learning Connections and Butler County Early Care and Education Council at Lifesteps are joining in this effort and contributing to the information available to those who choose to attend.
“It’s grassroots, which is kind of fun to see how everybody pitched in their own expertise. The Early Learning Connections in saying that we can gather together resources. Not only are can you come hear this message, but you’re going to be able to walk away with information about local agencies that can support you in that effort,” Roberts said.
No reservation or RSVP is required.
