Legislation is beginning to be developed in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to finally move the April presidential primary date up.
The current Pennsylvania primary date is April 24th. One proposed date for the move is April 2nd—which would start the petition process after the New Year. April 2nd would also align Pennsylvania with Delaware, New York, Rhode Island and battle ground state Wisconsin’s presidential primary dates.
There is also a proposed March 18 date, pairing Pennsylvania with Arizona and Florida.
Representative of the 8th District Aaron Bernstine is for moving the election but most importantly wants to ensure county officials will not be blindsided.
“I know there are a lot of dates out there that people are working with and I think it’s important that we work with our county partners. To make sure that they have the time in order to make sure we have a free fair election and all the votes are counted properly,” Bernstine said.
There is no deadline to move the election.
