A couple of recent donations will help care for Butler Township’s Preston Park as well as support local children in need.
At their Monday night meeting, the Friends of Preston Park Foundation presented a check to Butler Township Commissioners for $5,000 to help pay for a new Kubota utility vehicle.
This $16,000 purchase was approved by the commissioners in June and is used for maintenance as well as in the event of an emergency at the park.
The other donation made Monday night was by Butler Township in the amount of over $1,500 to support the Kids Weekend Backpack Program. This money was contributed by local residents through food drives and collections over the last several years.
The Kids Weekend Backpack Program buys food items from food banks and discount retailers to provide for hundreds of Butler children in need every weekend and holiday when they are not guaranteed a healthy school meal.
