The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission issued their ruling on a proposed rate increase requested by Peoples Natural Gas.
The commission voted 4-0 to approve a lower increase than originally requested by People’s Gas in January.
The original request would have increased operating revenues by nearly $95 million per year or by 14 percent. The approved settlement allows for an annual operating revenue increase of nearly $60 million which works out to almost 9 percent.
Under the settlement, which would combine the rates of its Peoples and Equitable Divisions – the average monthly bill for a residential customer in the Peoples Division would increase from $74.24 to $79.84, an increase of $5.60 or 7.5 percent, and the average monthly bill for a residential customer in the Equitable Division would increase from $70.79 to $79.84, an increase of just over $9 or nearly 13 percent.
