There’s still time for residents to give input at online public hearings that will be held by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission about proposed rate increases requested by Pennsylvania American Water.
The eight hearings will take place over video conference and telephone beginning this Tuesday, August 18th at 1 and 6 p.m. Additional hearings will take place at the same times on Tuesday, August 25th, Wednesday, August 26th and Thursday, August 27th.
PA American Water requested the over $120 million rate hike over two years in water and wastewater services. The average monthly bill for a residential customer would increase by nearly 12% over the course of that time.
Those who would like to testify at this hearing should contact the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate toll-free at 1-800-684-6560. The deadline to register is five days before each hearing so those wishing to testify Tuesday need to sign up by tomorrow (Thursday). The link for those who would like to just listen is posted to the PUC website.
The PUC is now investigating this request with a final decision expected by January. PA American Water provides service to roughly 2.3 million residents and businesses in 37 counties across the state, including many in Butler County.
