Ray Oesterling, 78, of Butler, PA, died after a short illness on April 28, 2022, at the Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born July 2, 1943 in Butler, PA. He was the son of the late Gene and Betty Oesterling of Butler. He worked at Pullman Standard Railroad Company and as a truck driver for several companies prior to his retirement. He married Judy Denny in 1965 and they celebrated 56 years together. He was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Happy Hunter’s Sportsman Club, and was in the Butler County Horseshoe Hall of Fame. Ray was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, watching wildlife, especially birds, from his back porch where he spent many hours. He loved going to his Camp Evergreen in Emporium, PA, working on crossword puzzles, and creating coloring book masterpieces. Surviving are his wife, Judy Oesterling, a daughter Denise (Dave) Oesterling of Butler, a daughter Lorain (Joseph) Shimkus of Cranberry Township, a son Raymond Jr. of Butler, a granddaughter Tonya (Garrett) Weitzel, and a sister Lois (Larry) McCall, sister-in-law Gayle Oesterling, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Oesterling. Friends of Raymond Oesterling Sr. who passed away, Thursday, April 28, 2022 will be received Monday, May 2nd, from 10am to 12pm at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson Street in Butler with a Christian service beginning at 12 noon at the church, followed by a luncheon. A private burial will be held. All arrangements through the SPENCER D.
