Raymond “Ray” Wade Covert, 74, of Butler, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in the early morning after an extended illness.
Born December 2, 1943 in Butler, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond W. Covert II and Marie (Crispin) Covert.
Ray proudly served our country in the US Air Force from 1961-1965. Upon returning home from the military Ray pursued a career as an electrician as a member of the local electrical Union #5, from which he retired January 2005. Ray was never short on stories of the many buildings he worked on in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.
Ray was a member of St John’s Reformed Church. In addition, he pursued his passion of the outdoors as an active hunter, trapper and fisherman and as member of the East Butler Sportsman Club. He was a competitive shooter, competing in several Competition Grand Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife Gloria Covert, whom he married August 12, 2000; his son Ray W. Covert IV and his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Heather Goodhart and Holly Malehorn; grandson, Raymond W. “Wade” Covert V; brother, Clarence Covert; stepchildren; Dusty Gilliland and Travis Flinner; and step-grandchildren, Luke Gilliland, Josie Gilliland, Madeline Gilliland, Damion Flinner and Kayla Wick.
Friends will be received Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.
Monday, January 15, 2018 at St. John’s Reformed Church, 493 Evans City Rd., Butler, PA 16001, there will be additional Visitation from 10 – 11 am followed by Funeral Services immediately following at 11 am with Pastor Jarrod Crawford, officiating.
Finally, Ray was never one to express his caring in flowery words, instead he did so by always being willing to jump in and lend a hand to friend, neighbor and family. One of his favorite sayings to his wife was, “I love you more, three, or four”.
