A local brewery is celebrating one of their own and her efforts to raise money for a healthcare facility.
Recon Brewing recently donated just over $1,000 to Magee Women’s Hospital to benefit their NICU unit.
Recon’s lead bartender Keisha Kurtz had a child that was born prematurely and spent time in the NICU. She said the care they received inspired her to donate back.
“From the beginning of the company, long before we had bought a building or starting brewing beer on a commercial brewing system, we knew we wanted to be a company that gave back to the community. Not just with financial donations, but with our time and efforts as well. When Kiesha came to us and explained her thoughts for the Karma tap, we knew it was a home run,” Recon Brewing part-owner Dave Bestwick said.
The money was raised via the brewery’s ‘Karma Tap’ which is a specially brewed beer to benefit non-profits.
