A local group is hosting an event this weekend in Butler to spotlight the efforts of many who struggle to overcome addiction.
A Recovery Month Gathering will be held on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Butler Farmer’s Market. Jason Beckwith is the founder of Action in Recovery who is organizing this event.
“There will be a local band, Chinese auctions, and I will speak for about 20 minutes just addressing what the message is we’re trying to carry out to the community,” Beckwith said. “The more people we have together, the more impact we can have on Butler.”
According to Beckwith and other members of this group, removing the social stigma of addiction and letting people know they are not alone are important steps along the road to recovery.
“People will be there from all walks of life,” Beckwith said. “A lot of different places that provide help for people will be there. So if you know someone who is struggling, we’ll be able to link you in with someone locally that can help you resource-wise.”
