April is National Volunteer Month and the American Red Cross is encouraging residents to pitch in to support neighbors in need.
Officials say last year more than 3,300 Red Cross volunteers across the Greater Pennsylvania region assisted in the aftermath of over 1,500 disasters. This works out to volunteers as more than 90% of Red Cross workers nationally.
The Red Cross has a critical need for volunteers in three specific positions including on the Disaster Action Team to help recovering families, on the Shelter Services team with people in an emergency shelter, or on the Disaster Health Services team providing care, assessments, and education to those in need.
More information about volunteering is available on the Red Cross website.
