June is National Safety Month and the American Red Cross is offering tips to remind people to stay safe when spending time in the water or caring for pets.
They encourage people to always swim with a buddy in designated areas under lifeguard supervision, and learn how to swim through water safety and age-appropriate swimming courses, as well as first aid and CPR classes.
Pets should not be left in a hot vehicle even for a short amount of time since animals can easily suffer from heat stroke. Heavy panting and a temperature over 105 degrees can be symptoms of heat stroke. Owners should use a water hose to help the animal cool down.
