After local Congressman Mike Kelly was given a clean bill of health, he is now participating in a national study that could help others.
Kelly was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 27th but was recently declared to be free of the virus by medical professionals.
It was determined last week at UPMC Falk Clinic in Pittsburgh that Kelly’s blood contains antibodies for the coronavirus. As a result Kelly donated convalescent plasma at the Vitalant Blood Bank in Greentree on Monday.
This national clinical trial is looking into the effectiveness of blood transfusion as a treatment for COVID-19. Those who have recovered are encouraged to speak to their doctors about donating plasma.
