Congressman Mike Kelly is once again introducing legislation that would ban abortions once a child’s heartbeat is detected.
The bill was originally introduced in the last Congress, and has been brought before the House to start off this legislative session.
The bill would require doctors to check for a fetal heartbeat prior to performing an abortion. The doctor would be subject to criminal prosecution; however the woman would not.
Kelly said in a statement that “the Heartbeat Protection Act ensures the most vulnerable among us have the same life-affirming protections that every other American enjoys.”
