Congressman Mike Kelly was joined by a number of his colleagues in pushing for more information on why a Butler native who is currently imprisoned in Russia is not considered “wrongfully detained.”
Marc Fogel was teaching history courses in Russia when he was arrested in August 2021 for possession of a small amount of medical marijuana.
In June of this year, Fogel was then sentenced to 14 years of hard labor.
Kelly and other lawmakers have called on the Biden Administration to reclassify Fogel as “wrongfully detained” which gives the state department more tools to fight for his release.
Kelly introduced a resolution of inquiry last week as they say the Biden Administration has been reluctant to make this classification for Fogel.
