Congressman Mike Kelly is pushing the IRS to make sure a backlog of people owed federal tax returns get their money.
Kelly spoke at a tax oversight panel yesterday and said that over two million Americans are still awaiting their 2019 tax returns.
“Given that this backlog may not be resolved until well into this year, I’m concerned about the agency’s ability to handle last year’s backlog while also having to work through another difficult filing season this year,” Kelly said.
Kelly also said over four million businesses are due tax returns as well. More money was allotted to the IRS through the COVID relief package according to Kelly, but he also acknowledged money alone won’t fix the problem.
