A local lawmaker is among those sponsoring bipartisan legislation that would reform the Internal Revenue Service.
In his role as Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax, Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly of Butler recently helped to introduce the “IRS Whistleblower Program Improvement Act”.
This act would include six measures to increase the success of this program, ensure fairness for all involved, and protect the whistleblowers that come forward. This legislation is supported by the National Whistleblower Center and Taxpayers Against Fraud.
The IRS Whistleblower Program has allowed the government to collect more than $6 billion from people and businesses caught attempting to evade tax collection. In January Kelly voted in favor of a bill that would have repealed funding for an increased number of new IRS agents.
