Congressman Mike Kelly was in Lawrence County yesterday meeting with farmers in the wake of the train derailment in Eastern Ohio.
Kelly met with members from the Beaver-Lawrence County Farm Bureau, along with local residents to see if the derailment has had any impact on the agricultural industry.
Our newsroom spoke with Kelly, who says he has concerns about the impact on the environment.
“I think that there’s an uncertainty for folks asking if they are going to be safe in the future,” Kelly said. “There were a number of fish in the streams there that died. There’s something there that caused that marine life to die.”
Kelly calls for more to be done for local farmers in the area, including water and soil testing.
“I stand with the residents of Lawrence County as we continue to press for answers and make more federal resources available to them,” Kelly said.
