Congressman Mike Kelly is facing scrutiny after his wife purchased thousands of dollars in Cleveland Cliffs stock not long before the Department of Energy announced a rule that would ensure the company’s future in the area.
Several investment sites report that Kelly’s wife Victoria purchased between $50,001 to $100,000 in Cliffs stock on March 28th this year. The investment came as Kelly and other lawmakers were pushing for the DOE to overturn a rule that threatened the Butler Works plant.
On April 1st, Kelly held a town hall rallying support for the plant. And then on April 4th, the DOE announced it was changing the final proposed rule.
Kelly reported he was made aware of the trade on May 15th.
The stock purchase was similar to an investment Kelly’s wife made in 2020, which launched a Congressional Ethics investigation.
Kelly’s office declined to comment.
