As more people experience unemployment compensation fraud, a local lawmaker is sharing information to help address the situation.
According to Republican State Representative Marci Mustello, an increasing number of local residents and employers are reporting scams connected to applying for and receiving unemployment benefits.
Anyone who believes they may have been the target of a scam like this should visit the Unemployment Compensation Benefits website and select “Report Fraud” at the bottom of the page to fill out an identity theft form. Fraud related to the federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program can be reported on a different website.
Mustello encourages residents with questions about suspicious activity to call her office for help about what actions can be taken.
