Researchers at Penn State say another invasive disease is threatening an important forest tree species in the Commonwealth.
An outbreak of oak wilt has been detected at Penn State’s experimental forest in Huntington County. The disease can infest all species of oak and is fatal to trees because the fungus prevents movement of water and sugars to the canopy.
Penn State researchers are in the process of testing new protocols to help control an oak wilt outbreak, however they say the current process is intense and expensive.
