Richard K. “Dick” Dunmyre, 76, of Butler, formerly of Chicora, passed away in the comfort of his home with his loving wife at his side early Monday morning, June 7, 2021.
Richard was born in Chicora on June 21, 1944. He was the son of the late George A. and Edith F. Kelly Dunmyre.
He was a 1962 graduate of Karns City Area High School and a 1966 graduate of Grove City College where he had earned a B.S. in accounting.
Dick was a U.S. Naval Officer, and had served his country during the Vietnam Era. He had earned the rank of Ensign, and was later promoted to LTJG. Dick was very proud of his service aboard the USS Yorktown where he participated in the production of the movie, Tora Tora Tora and was most especially proud of participating in the ocean rescue and retrieval of the crew of Apollo 8.
In his early years he had been employed as an accountant with Carbis Walker in Butler. Dick was also a partner and accountant at Dunmyre Trucking in Chicora for many years. Later, Dick established Richard K. Dunmyre Accounting in Chicora which he operated for more than 40 years; his many clients cherished his friendship and trusted his wise counsel.
Dick enjoyed traveling and the company of his family, playing computer games, puzzles, and was an avid reader. He had been a long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora and had served the church as accountant for many years. He most recently became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Violet M. “Vie” Harris Dunmyre, whom he married in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chicora on March 15, 1969; two daughters, Allison M. Broz, and her husband, Eric of Youngstown, and Andrea K. Dunmyre, Butler; a brother Kevin P. Dunmyre, of Butler; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra Dunmyre, of Butler, Paul Harris Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Boise, ID, Raymond Dale Harris, and his wife, Joan, of Valencia, Timothy J. Harris and his wife, Carolyn, of Flatonia, TX; and a cousin, Donna Dunmyre; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack A. Dunmyre; and his cousin, who was like a brother to Dick, Terry Dunmyre.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday. (Military honors will be accorded at 6:45 p.m. by members of the Chicora and East Brady American Legion Posts) A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, at 11 a.m. Thursday with church pastor, Rev. Joel Benson, officiating. Friends will be received at church one hour prior to the service.
