Richard L. Daller, 91, of Butler passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born February 11, 1933 in Butler, he was a son of the late John and Eliza (Patterson) Daller.
Richard served as an aerographer in the United States Navy on an aircraft carrier that carried out bomb testing in the Bikini Atoll during the Korean War. He and his wife Helen lived in San Diego, CA during his military service. He worked at the Armco steel mill in Butler in various capacities for over 40 years, ending up in the masonry department. He was a dedicated member of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Lyndora for many years, singing in the choir and always being involved in the making of the church’s popular pierogies. He also enjoyed woodworking, bowling, music, dancing and spending time with family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Helen (Grennek) Daller; they were married on November 26, 1955. Also surviving are two sons, Richard (Julianne) Daller of Pittsburgh and Thomas Daller of Butler; his daughter, Lu Ann (Dale) Shidemantle of Erie; seven grandchildren: Emily, Sarah, Jocelyn, Luke, Andrew, Ethan and Jacob; five great-grandchildren: Darcy, Jonah, Teddy, Maddie and Hope; two sisters, Betty Lou Turner of Butler and Sandra (Charles) Walton of NJ.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Friends will be received Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 201 Penn Avenue, Lyndora, PA. 16045. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday at the church, with Rev. Michael Sochka officiating. Graveside services to follow at the North Side Cemetery in Butler with military honors.
