Richard N. White, 76, of Butler, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1944 in Butler, the son of the late William H. and Ruth (Robinson) White.
Dickie was a 1963 Butler High graduate where he was an outstanding football player. He also sang Doo Wop in the group “The Continentals” in the early 1960’s. He had served as an Army paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War, stationed in the Panama Canal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #117. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR races, and camping with his family at Vacationland Campgrounds. He also enjoyed family vacations to the Outer Banks. He retired from the Butler Fire Department after 20 years of service. Dickie, also, had been a firefighter for McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, CA. He also had worked at Slippery Rock University and had driven truck for Victory Express and school bus for Valley Bus Lines. He had been an assistant coach for Penn Street Cardinals Midget football team and was an avid football fan. Dickie was Baptist by faith.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gloria (Scudder) White of Butler; 3 children, Lisa (Jeff) Suchonic, Kelly (David) Potts and Amanda White, all of Butler; 4 grandchildren, Kristi (Eric) Abbott, Brea (John Ewing) Suchonic, Mikayla (Kirk) Guidotti and Micah Potts; 3 great grandchildren, Keira & Eric Abbott and Rowan Guidotti; and his 2 sisters, Dorothy Smith and Doris Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Beverly White, Maxine McCall and Shirley Johnson and his 3 brothers, William, James and Walter White.
Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 2 until time of service at 4 PM with Rev. Jim Lewis officiating. Please wear a mask and social distance per COVID regulations.
