Richard Robert Walker, 74, of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, formerly of Butler, passed away on April 11, 2018 at the The Grove in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
He was born January 14, 1944 in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Elden Walker and the late Virginia Oesterling Walker.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving as an Assistant to the Admiral of the Atlantic Sub Fleet in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He was a machine gunner in the military and was known to play the “Yellow Rose” of Texas on his machine gun. Richard worked for Etzel Masonry for 6 years then began his own business, C&W Builders, Inc. from 1973 to 1999. He was in a bowling league at Sherwood Lanes, a member of the PA Brick Layers Union where he received his 50th year pin and a watch. Richard attended Community Alliance Church for 25 years and when they moved to New Wilmington attend New Life Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Richard was a member of the American Legion Post #778 of Lyndora.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of 50 years, two sons, Rodrichard Walker and his wife Diane of Butler, PA, Scott Walker and his wife Angel of Volant, PA; one daughter, Shelly Miller and her husband Daniel of New Wilmington, PA; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; three brothers, Dennis Walker and his wife Marty of Butler, PA, Terry Walker and his wife Mary of Butler, PA, Bradley Walker, Sr. and his wife Veronica of Butler, PA; three sisters, Sandra Meier and her husband David of Butler, PA, Deborah Walker of Butler, PA, Jyll Clouse and her husband Thomas of Chicora, PA; mother-in-law, Edna Cemate, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Walker.
Friends will be received Sunday, April 15, 2018, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm & 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018, 10:30 am at the Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road Butler, PA, with Reverend Dr. Dennis L. Krajacic, officiating.
Officers and Members of the American Legion Post #117 of Butler, American Legion Post #778 of Lyndora, and VFW Post #249 of Butler will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.
