Richard W. Johnston, 78, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025. Richard was born in Pittsburgh on January 3, 1947, to the late Floyd and Ruth (Gray) Johnston. Following his 1964 graduation from Mars High School, he promptly joined the Navy and served as a four-year veteran. After his military service, he moved to California and joined the Palo Alto Police Department and worked in retail security. While there, he met his wife, Janet Moureaux. Their marriage lasted 20 years, and they had two children together. They eventually moved to Pittsburgh, where Richard attended the University of Pittsburgh. Following his divorce, he moved to Las Vegas, where he worked for 30 years and developed a love for the desert heat. He enjoyed going to the Vegas casinos; his favorite games included Video Poker, Double Double Deluxe, and Buffalo Slots. In 2021, Richard moved back to Pennsylvania, where he lived until his death. He is survived by his son, Mark Johnston; daughter, Amy (Jamie) Stenman; grandson, Zachary Johnston; granddaughter, Lily Stenman; brothers, Bill, Joe, and Dwight Johnston; sister, Linda Doman; along with several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” Johnston. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5-6:30PM at SPENCER D.
