Ricky V. “Rick” McElravy, 75, of Chicora, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, Sunday evening, July 7, 2024.
Ricky was born in Karns City on September 20, 1948. He was the son of the late Rev. Charles Robert Sr. and Armeida M. Cousins McElravy. He was a 1966 graduate of Karns City Area High School, and was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving aboard the USS Niagara Falls. He was a longtime member of the Bradys Bend American Legion Post and the Parker VFW Post. Ricky was a Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed golfing, and in his earlier years, playing softball, basketball, and baseball. In his early years, Rick attended the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy. He was counted on annually as a top seller at the church’s pumpkin roll fundraiser.
In his earlier years, he was employed by the ESSO Station in Karns City, PennDOT, and the Petrolia Water Authority. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the post offices in Karns City and Petrolia. Rick also worked with his wife in her business, The Spider’s Den, making leather motorcycle apparel.
Rick is survived by his wife, Karen Smith McElravy; a sister, Shirley Ann Shepard of Karns City; three brothers, Regis T. McElravy, of Haysville, Rudy A. McElravy (Sandy), and Rodney K. McElravy, all of Karns City; a step-daughter and her husband, Shannon and Clark Janes, and two step-grandchildren, Catherine E. and Ian R. Janes, all of Cedar Park, TX; as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Robert McElravy Jr., and Randy L. McElravy, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard Shepard, Sharon McElravy, and Becky McElravy.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main Street, Karns City from 1-3 p.m. today (Friday). A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 3 p.m. with the Bishop Alan Ion, Rick’s cousin and pastor of the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Members of the Bradys Bend and Chicora American Legion Posts will accord military honors at 2:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.
