He was born September 26, 1932, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Dr. Robert E. Hunt and the late Katherine Rachel McDonald.
Mr. Hunt was a graduate of Butler High School Class of 1951. He attended Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He served in the US Navy in Italy and received an honorable discharge in 1961. He later worked at Baxter Laboratories and then Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, IL until his retirement in 1993.
In 1997, when Diana and Fred moved to the Butler area, they became members of Christ Community United Methodist Church. In 2009 when they moved to Concordia, they joined Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver. Throughout his church service, Fred was active in the Stephen Ministries, taught Sunday School with Diana, sang in the Men’s Choir, and was a regular volunteer at the food pantry. Fred was an avid nature photographer and developed many of his own pictures in his dark room. He also enjoyed traveling, writing, bowling, learning to play the piano, and carpentry work, especially remodeling projects.
He is survived by two sons Robert T. (Jeanna) Hunt of Butler, PA, and Brian E. Hunt of Henderson, KY; a daughter Katherine A. (Nicholas) Hunt; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister Katherine Rapp of Butler, PA; sister-in-law, Barbara A. Aaron of Madison, WI; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Hunt; his brother, J. Steve Hunt; his stepmother, Orma Hunt; and his daughter-in-law, Dorrell Hunt.
Friends will be received Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 2-3PM at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.
Funeral Services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, with Pastor David Janz officiating.
Private Burial will take place in the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
