Robert L. Dally, 78, of Butler passed away Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice. He was born on April 6, 1939 in Chicora, PA to his late parents, Reinhold J. Dally, Sr. and Ruth Lackey. Bob graduated from Butler High School in 1957 and was employed by Nationwide Insurance for 35 years where he worked as a Loss Control Specialist. After retiring in 1993, he worked for several years at Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter, and Graham as a courier and retired in 2004 to help take care of his grandson. A selfless provider and tireless worker, Bob always put the needs of others before his own.
A longtime Scoutmaster of Troop 3 in Butler, Bob was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service for Youth, the St. George Emblem for outstanding service, and District Award of Merit. He willingly gave many hours of his time to scouting, whether it was camping out or running the district swim program or Chairing the Glacier Ridge Eagle Board of Review. Bob also bowled for many years with the Elks bowling league.
Bob was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, where he served on the Executive Board many times, was a member of the choir, and a pirohi worker.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Ann (Shott) Dally, whom he married on September 24, 1961; one son, James Dally and his wife Tara of Trophy Club, TX; one daughter, Susan Maleckar and her husband John of Gibsonia, PA; four grandchildren, Joshua Dally, Nathan Dally, Gregory Maleckar, and Emily Maleckar. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Alexander Shott, and his brother-in-law, A. Robert Shott, Esq.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Reinhold J. Dally, Jr.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler, PA 16001from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday from SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 21 Evergreen Road in Lyndora. Rev. Paisius McGrath, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Butler.
A Parastas service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday from the Funeral Home.
