Ronald Baxter, age 90, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his residence following an illness.
Born in Butler on March 25, 1928, he was a son of the late Joseph and Annie Anthony Baxter.
He retired from Armco in 1989 after working 41 years as a foreman in the transportation department.
Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served near the end of World War II as a truck driver and ambulance driver.
He was a member of Butler Masonic Lodge #272 F & AM.
Ron enjoyed hunting with his sons, playing and coaching baseball, fishing trips to Canada, working in his vegetable and flower gardens, and mowing his lawn.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cleo Kiser Baxter, whom he married February 23, 1951; two sons, Ronny Baxter and his wife, Mary, and David Baxter and his wife, Lori, all of Butler; one daughter, Lori Haughey and her husband, Jim, of Butler; six grandchildren, Shannon Baxter and her fiancé, Craig Fischer, Kara Ritts and her husband, Jeremy, Shane Baxter, Elizabeth Haughey, Julia Baxter, and Abigail Haughey; two great-granddaughters, Addison Ritts and Teagan Fischer; and one brother, Kenneth Baxter, of Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brooke; two brothers, Ernest Baxter and James Baxter; and three sisters, Sue Clark Shearer, Betty Sarvey, and Jean Scott.
Friends will be received on Saturday, January 5, from 12 Noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Rider Lutheran Church, 189 Rider Church Road, West Sunbury, with Reverend Paul Lubold and Pastor Dennis Hindman, Sr. officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the church at 12:45 p.m. by Chicora American Legion Post 642 and Brady’s Bend American Legion Post 488.
