Ronald D. “Ron” McPherson, 86, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 16, 2022, at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1935, in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania to the late Ralph E. McPherson and the late Eula E. Snyder McPherson.
Ron proudly served in the USAF Strategic Air Command in Columbus, OH and Newfoundland. He was a computer technician for United Telephone / Sprint when he retired in 1997 after 39 years. He attended the First Baptist Church of Butler, PA. Ron was active in a variety of sports, throughout his lifetime. Butler High School sports that he competed in were football, baseball, and diving. He played on the Air Force Baseball team, was a member of Weightlifters for Christ and enjoyed hunting with his son and great grandson. For many years, he and Peg enjoyed square-dancing, round-dancing, and waltzing to their favorite, The Tennessee Waltz. They both enjoyed bowling, golfing, and shuffleboard.
Ronald is survived by his son, Timothy A. (Tonya) McPherson of Butler, PA; three daughters, Sandra (Fred) Kriess of Glendale, AZ, Susan (Hank) Voorhees of Grove City, PA, Mary (Heskil) Whitaker of Jacksonville, FL; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Dirk Pickett of Butler, PA; one sister-in-law, Mildred Sutton of Butler, PA; one brother, John (Bonnie) McPherson of Butler, PA; two sisters, Connie (Donald) McElhany of Fenelton, PA, Mary Margaret “Marg” Covert of Butler, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Margaret “Peg” Jean McPherson, who he married on July 6, 1955, and who passed away on March 9, 2020; one infant son; one daughter, Ronda Pickett; and three brothers.
Friends will be received Monday, February 21, 2022, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle Street Butler, PA, with Pastor David Maitland, officiating.
Officers and Member of the American Legion Post #117, American Legion Post #778, and the VFW Post #249 will conduct military services after the funeral at the First Baptist Church.
Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Slippery Rock Baptist Camp, 130 Elliott Lane, Slippery Rock, 16057.
