Ronald J. Marak, 88, of Butler passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 surrounded by family. Born August 24, 1936 in Pittsburgh, son of the late John Marak Jr. and Angela Anna Weidor Marak.
Ron proudly served in the Marine Corps. for 5 years during the Korean War Era. He was a graduate of North Catholic High School. He attended Allegheny Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, and University of Pittsburgh where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Justice. He also attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Graphics Art & Design.
Ron proudly served as a Police Officer for the City of Pittsburgh for 25 years, retiring as a Sergeant. He was a Member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 for over 50 years. He was President of the Spring Hill Civic League, Partner of his own security business, Marine Security, founding member of the North Side Public Safety Council, and active member in the Marine Corps League 743 Bantom Marines for over 20 years. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Campbell Bus Company for Moniteau School District for 17 years. He was a model citizen and devoted Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary (Fochtman) Marak of 57 years, two sons Ronald C and Joshua J Marak, and two brothers Jack (John) and Roy Marak. He leaves behind five daughters, Elizabeth Marak, Kimberly (Late, John) Spinelli, Tracey Sarver, Kelly (John) Rackley, Amy (Jerold) Smith; Three sons, Christopher Marak, Jonathan (April) Marak and Jacob Marak; Brother Thomas Marak; sisters Carolann Zaborowski and Marygrace Chandler; Sisters in law, Darlene Marak, Virginia Marak and Sally Fochtman; 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and his beloved service dog Holly.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10:00 am, at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 North Main Street Ext. in Butler. Inurnment will be in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
