Ronald Richard “Mick” McCandless, 79, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 23, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
He was born January 24, 1942, in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Howard E. McCandless, Sr. and the late Stella M. (Measel) McCandless.
Mick attended Knoch Senior High School in Saxonburg and graduated in the first graduating class in 1959. He worked for Friedman’s Supermarkets, as Store Manager in Saxonburg, retiring in 2004 after 44 years. Mick served as a Staff Sergeant in US Air Force Reserves for 6 years, in the 911 Support Squadron, S.A.C. at Greater Pittsburgh Airport, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the “Airman of the Year” in 1968. Mick was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the Happy Hunters Sportsmen Club of Fenelton, PA and a life member of the National Rifleman Association. Mick was a member of Sarver Vets Club, American Legion Post 0945, and Moose #64.
Mick is survived by his two sisters, Judith Neill of Butler, PA, Twila (Donald F.) Stewart of NC; two sisters-in-law, MaryAnn McCandless of Butler, Shirley Ann McCandless of Renfrew; several nieces and nephews; and a number of great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Jr., Robert, and Gary; and one brother-in-law, William Neill.
Friends will be received Monday, November 29, 2021, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA.
Officers and Members of the American Legion Post #117, American Legion Post #778, and the VFW Post #249 will conduct military services at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 6:00 pm at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Rev. David M. Phillips, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.
