Rosemarie E. Gall-Zarnick, age 89, of Butler, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, at Concordia at Cabot.
Born July 29, 1934, in East Butler, she was a daughter of the late Walter L. and Gertrude Eyth Osche.
She was formerly employed at Castle Rubber Company, Hardy’s Candy Company, and Woolworth’s.
Rosie was a member of Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, Saint Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, where she was a past president and past vice-president of the Christian Mothers.
She was a Gold Card member of the Ladies Auxiliary of East Butler Volunteer Fire Department and a proud member of the Butler Democratic Club. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts, sewing and ceramics.
But – most of all – she adored being a homemaker who lovingly cared for her family.
She is survived by five children, Rebecca “Becky” Forster, Shirley Steighner (Stan), Teri Meier (Bruce), Janet Piper (Lewis), and Walter Gall (Patty), all of Butler; three stepchildren, James Zarnick, Jr. (Paula), of Ashburn, Va., Michael Zarnick (Joan), of The Villages, Fla., and Sherry Barto (Jeff), of Butler; eleven grandchildren, Angela Birckbichler, Joyce (Christopher) McDonald, Garrett Dietrich, Jacob (Carli) Dietrich, Adam (Jamie Powell) Piper, Casey (Aarthi Balachander) Piper, Karley (Nate Hatz) Gall, Mary Gall, Heather Gall, Emily Gall, and Natalie Gall; four step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, Cheyanne McDonald, Dylan and Levi Dietrich, Rohan and Shreya Piper, and Sebastian and Irene Piper.
Also surviving are two sisters, Patricia “Tish” Bachman, of Florida, and Ruth “Babe” Raybuck, of East Butler; one sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Osche, of Bernville, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husbands, Edmond E. Gall, Jr., whom she married June 2, 1956, and who died July 12, 1998 (coincidentally, July 12 is the same day that our beloved Rosie died), and James L. Zarnick, Sr., whom she married June 25, 2005, and who died June 23, 2019; one son-in-law, John R. Forster; four brothers, Carl “Fritz” Osche and his wife, Geraldine “Gerry”, Lawrence “Dit” Osche and his wife, Elizabeth “Libby”, Bernard “Bernie” Osche, and infant Floyd Osche; five sisters, Rita Cypher and her husband, Lynis, Helen Lumley and her husband, Harry, Sally Coyle and her husband, Harvey, Gertrude “Sis” Fulton and her husband, Arthur, and infant Eileen Osche; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Bachman and Ike Raybuck.
She was also preceded in death by three nephews and two nieces.
The family extends its sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Oertel Hall at Concordia at Cabot for their expert, compassionate care.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave, Butler, on Tuesday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m..
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Saint Clare Parish, Saint Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, 210 Saint Wendelin Rd., Butler, with Rev. Matt McClain officiating.
Burial will take place in Saint Wendelin Cemetery.
