Roy Eugene Anderson, age 96, a life time resident of Prospect passed away early Thursday, August 10, 2017 at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
Born June 14, 1921 in Muddy Creek Township, he was the son of the late Clarke and Marie Neely Anderson.
He was a life time member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prospect, where he served on the church council.
Roy proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II.
He started his career as a mechanic at Standard Motor Chevrolet dealer in Butler, then a welder at Pullman Standard, next a mechanic at Jack Pizor Garage in Butler, and then retired after working 20 years as a mechanic for the PA State Police Troop D Butler Barracks.
Roy was a life time member of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department where he was a former fire chief, fire truck driver and mechanic. He will be remembered for his voice to always answer “Butler Control Prospect Base” promptly.
He served his community on the Slippery Rock Area School Board during the construction of Moraine Elementary School, and on the Prospect Borough Council during the conception of the borough residential sewage project.
His hobbies were tractor pulls, NASCAR, Pittsburgh Pirates, and bowling.
He is survived by his children Kenneth (Nancy) Anderson of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Norma (George) Farinelli of Denison, Texas; Virginia Wagner of Prospect; his nine grandchildren Sherrie, Kenny, Jr., Stacie, Dawn, Robin, Brian, Mitch, Lori, Greg; his 17 great grandchildren; his 8 great great grandchildren and his two sisters Elsie Craig of Ohio and Lois McCurdy of Prospect, and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Woessner Anderson, who he married September 2, 1940 and who passed away April 22, 2000; brother Earl “Bus” Anderson; and sister Dorothy Anderson.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 6-8pm and on Sunday from 1-4pm at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect. The funeral service will be on Monday, 10am, at the Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Curtis, officiating.
Following the service, the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department will give honors for his Last Call of Duty at the fire station, interment with military honors will conclude at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
