Born September 17, 1929 on Lyon Ave. in Butler, he was the son of the late George Dewey and the late Maye Viola Morrow.
Russ attended Center Ave, Jefferson St, and Butler Jr./Sr. High School. He was a veteran of The US Army. Russ earned a Business Degree at Carnegie Tech and an Electrical Engineering degree from Grove City College. He went on to work at Armco and retired in 1989 after 30 years.
Russ loved the outdoors and was an environmentalist. He volunteered time and donated money to the Mackoskey Center in Slippery Rock. Russ owned 50 acres of land in Jefferson Township where he planted a plethora of pine trees that are still present today. He was a member of Summit Church, a board member in the Butler Chapter of the Salvation Army, and a lifelong resident of Butler. Russ was an avid baseball and football fan and always listened to the games on the radio. He was an intelligent man who loved to read books. Above all else, Russ was an amazing father, husband and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Morrow, whom he married on August 3, 1960; his 3 daughters: Jennifer Piccari of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Leslie Morrow of Butler, PA; and Erin Hajec and her husband, John, of Saxonburg, PA, and his 2 grandchildren, Alyssa (Piccari) Mortenson and her husband Sean of Plant City, Florida, and Matthew Hajec Saxonburg, PA.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to his caregiver, Janet Lehnerd, all of the staff at Butler Memorial Hospital, and to all of the wonderful people at Concordia who helped him in many ways over the last year of his life.
Russ was a kind and gentle soul that will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and anyone who had the chance to get to know him. Until we meet again.
