Ruth Emilie McCall, 91, of Uniontown PA, formerly of Butler PA passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021. She was born on January 29, 1930 to the late Richard and Rupertine Muhla James of Brownsdale, PA. She was a devoted wife to her husband, the late Robert D. McCall, for 47 years until he passed in 1998. They were high school sweethearts from Penn Township High School, class of 1947. Ruth lived in the Butler area for most of her life, with brief stints in Patuxent River, MD and Norfolk while her husband served in the Navy. In 1998 Ruth and her husband moved to Uniontown, PA to be closer to her daughter and three grandsons, with whom she thoroughly enjoyed spending time.
When Ruth’s attention wasn’t fully required to raise her 2 children, she worked in various administrative positions to supplant the family income. Once that was no longer necessary, Ruth pursued various artistic interests until she found her passion, which was using stained glass to create windows, lamps and decorations that she sold locally or gave to family members and friends. She continued her glass work until she was no longer physically able. Ruth always managed the household finances and was a volunteer tax preparer for Uniontown and Butler Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) organizations.
Ruth was a member at Asbury United Methodist Church in Uniontown and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also an active member at Summit Presbyterian Church while she was in Butler.
Ruth was one of six siblings with two older and three younger brothers. She is survived by two of her younger brothers, Nelson James of Renfrew, Pa, and Walter James (Kathy) of La Habre, California. Ruth is also survived by her son Roger McCall and his wife Terri of Raleigh, NC and daughter Susan Spinuzza and her husband Ed Claypoole of Uniontown. Ruth had three grandsons, Luke Spinuzza (Vy) of Houston TX, James Spinuzza (Rachel) of Austin TX and Joseph Spinuzza of Houston, TX. Ruth had one great-grandson, Jameson, Luke’s son, who delighted her regularly when he was in Uniontown.
The family would like to express appreciation to the compassionate and tireless caregivers at Horizon Personal Care Home as well as the cheerful and dependable staff of Amedysis Hospice.
