The South Butler School District is moving forward with a project to improve heating, cooling and ventilation at Knoch High School.
During a meeting on Wednesday night, the school board voted to accept a bid for a cooling tower project from Pittsburgh company Wayne Crouse, Inc. The project also requires electrical work so the board approved IE Power of Freeport to perform that work.
The base bid and the alternate specifications for the tower itself will cost the district no more than $528,000. The electrical work will be an additional roughly $25,000. About half the money to pay for this project has been set aside in the current year budget while the rest will come from the budget for 2018-19.
Work is expected to begin immediately but the project could take seven months to complete. Superintendent Dr. David Foley said that there could be some cooling challenges in the fall at the secondary building.
