The South Butler School District teachers are back to work today despite still not having a contract.
The teachers went on strike two-and-a-half weeks ago when they couldn’t reach an agreement with the school board after almost four years. The major sticking points are healthcare coverage and wages.
The two sides met once while the teachers were on strike but no deal was reached. The teachers took to the picket lines a few times but decided not to picket every day.
The state mandated that the teachers return to school today to ensure students receive the required 180 days of instruction by June 15.
Both sides will now go through specific steps set by the state in an effort to reach an agreement. It is possible the teachers could strike again.
