A local community group will hold a town hall meeting on Tuesday to help encourage the South Butler School Board and the district’s teachers to come to an agreement.
The South Butler School Action Committee is organizing the event- which begins at 7 p.m. inside the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company Ballroom. Helsel is encouraged by the number of community members who have been involved at different levels of this effort.
Heather Helsel is one of the members of the action committee.
“We just want to be able to have a conversation to help promote transparency and to allow constituents and board members to have a two-way conversation,” Helsel said Monday in an interview. “I think there are a lot of questions that community members have and I think just trying to break down barriers and have conversations is the best way to help move forward.”
The group is hoping the school board members will attend so taxpayers can have a conversation with them as the contract negotiations with the district’s teachers carries on.
The South Butler teachers went back to work today after going on strike in mid-March. The teachers still don’t have a contract.
