State officials are highlighting safe driving tips for older drivers this week in Pennsylvania.
PennDOT, state police, and the Department of Aging are teaming up to bring attention to Older Driver Safety Awareness Week. Kurt Myers of PennDOT says that as the state’s population ages, there are more elderly drivers on the road.
Myers says that elderly drivers can follow a few suggestions to keep them safer.
- Make car trips during daylight hours.
- Avoid rush hour if you can.
- Look ahead while you’re driving.
- Keep a safe speed and a safe distance from the car in front of you.
“Pennsylvania has the fifth highest number of older people in the nation. Almost 25 percent of Pennsylvania’s 9.1 million licensed drivers are 65 or older,” Myers said.
