Saundra K. Wachter-Schlanger, 79, of Butler passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family on October 22, 2021. She was born March 25, 1942 in Reseda, California to the late Earle C. Leach and Dolsye M. Leach.
Saundra originally graduated from Cal State Northridge 1961 with her bachelor’s degree in education and immediately began her career as an elementary school teacher, specializing in grades 1st-3rd. Saundra’s passion was teaching children. Over the course of 48 years, Saundra obtained her master’s degree in education and taught thousands of children to read & write. When she wasn’t in the classroom, she was tutoring or preparing lesson plans.
Saundra married in 1965 to Kenneth L. Wachter and had two children in Simi Valley, California. In addition to her two children, she loved and wanted the best for Kenneth’s four children from a previous marriage. After the dissolution of her marriage to Kenneth, Saundra met Herbert Schlanger in 1981 and after many years, remarried. Saundra and Herb shared a loving and happy relationship. They traveled, camped, danced and laughed until Herb’s final days in 2000.
In addition to her parents, Saundra was pre-deceased by her husband Herbert Schlanger and stepchildren, Toni Janukites, Kenneth Wachter and Susan Schlanger. She is survived by her son, Derek Wachter and his wife Shanna of San Diego; daughter; Wendy Delp and her husband Donald Delp II and blended children Joni Novasel and her husband Nicholas; Bonnie Boyer and her husband Gary; Kenneth’s wife Linda; Toni’s Husband Ronald. Grandchildren – Chelsea Stoddard, Cody Austin, Jacob Wachter, Lorraine Austin, Aiden Austin. Blended family grandchildren Mackenzie Delp, Jeremy Delp, Scott Booher, Jason Janukites, Shanna Feterholf, Mitchell Boyer, Matthew Wachter, Adam Wachter, Skylar Cornell. Great grandchildren – Sophia Austin, Nova Jade and blended family great grandchildren Olivia, Bailey, Rayce, Dakota, Dylan, Brianna, Kaitlyn, Caine, Cooper, Zach, Teresa and Claire.
