A member of a local historical society is asking the Butler County Commissioners to reconsider how they divvy up the hotel tax.
During public comment session, Fred Caesar of the Friends of Saxonburg group asked the commissioners to consider taking the revenue from the hotel tax and putting it directly toward local historical society.
Caesar says most of the $2.3 million in the county’s hotel tax directly benefits the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau. He adds that the bureau then offers a matching grant program to some local groups and businesses.
Caesar is proposing that the tourism bureau receive 80 percent of hotel tax, while historical groups receive 20 percent and that it be distributed based on need.
