An elderly Butler County woman died Sunday following a motor vehicle accident.
Olga Kocon, 90, of Saxonburg, died at a hospital on Sunday, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to the Plum Borough Police Department, Kocon was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a crash on Friday in New Kensington, Westmoreland County. The driver, Jean Armany, was also injured and taken to a hospital. Her current condition is unclear.
The other driver, Richard Stutz, was not seriously injured.
According to the completed police report, Stutz told police he was traveling south on Coxcomb Hill Road when his GPS fell. He was attempting to locate it when he noticed traffic in front of him was stopped. He was unable to get his vehicle stopped.
“Stutz stated that he saw a parked vehicle on the shoulder of the road, so he drove his vehicle into oncoming traffic because he saw the travel lane was clear. In doing so, he struck Armany’s vehicle, who was making a left turn onto Logans Ferry Road from Coxcomb Hill Road,” according to the report.
Officers spoke to two witnesses on scene who stated that Armany’s vehicle was parked on the shoulder of Coxcomb Hill Road. The witnesses told police they saw Armany pull out onto the roadway then make a left turn toward a turning ramp on Logans Ferry Road when it was struck.
