Local school districts are continuing to help their communities through the distribution of meals during the period of mandated shutdown due to the coronavirus.
South Butler Superintendent Dr. David Foley says about 75 students were provided with meals to last three days. Meal handouts will occur again on Thursday at the Knoch High School Gym doors. Families are welcome to continue to sign up and only need to do so once.
According to Moniteau Superintendent Thomas Samosky, his district is also providing free meals for all children ages 18 and younger while schools are closed. This distribution will take place 11 a.m. to noon at Dassa McKinney Elementary School. Children must be present and drivers are asked to stay in their vehicles. Parents should complete a meal request form to allow for planning. The Moniteau Food Pantry is also supporting district families.
Many people have asked the Butler Area School District if volunteers are needed. They are not needed at this time with staff able to accomplish everything that needs done. However if the need for volunteers arises in the future, the district will be looking to those who have filled out volunteer forms through the BASD website.
